Domain Mapping (2)

You can register your domain name by searching for the availability of the name you desire in the search box below. If the name that you want is available, all you have to do is register with a domain registrar and pay for the domain.

Please note that you do not need to register a domain to use FreeWordpressHost. You could use a free name – something like this – http://freewordpresshost.com/yourname/

However, if you prefer to use your own domain such as yourname.com, then you would need to register with a domain registrar. You can register your domain name with any registrar and just follow the instructions on how to map your domain name to your free website with FreeWordpressHost.com

Category: Domain Mapping

Do you already own a domain name? If you would like to use it here on FreeWordpressHost.com all you need to do is “map” your existing domain or subdomain to your site.

Step 1

Log into the site you actually want to map to a new domain, then go to Tools->Domain Mapping.

domainmapping

Check the box – “Primary domain for this blog”

Add the new domain (i.e yourdomain.com) and click save.

Step 2

You will need to add a DNS “CNAME” record pointing to fhs.freewordpresshost.com.

  1. Sign in to your domain hosting service.
  2. Navigate to your DNS management page.
  3. Find the CNAME record settings.
  4. Create a new CNAME record.
  5. Enter a value for your subdomain in the host field.
    • For example, you’d enter “try” if you wanted to set up “try.mysite.com”.
      • NOTE: If you already have a website at “www.mysite.com” you’ll need to set up a subdomain such as “try.mysite.com” for your landing pages.
    • Enter “www” here if you are using a root domain for your landing pages like “www.mysite.com”.
      • Type www in the “CNAME” field.
  6. Enter fhs.freewordpresshost.com as the destination or address.
  7. Save the changes to your DNS records.

Changes to your CNAME records can take up to 48 hours to propagate. If you’re experiencing difficulties with your custom domain that have not resolved themselves after 48 hours, please check out Troubleshooting Problems With Your CNAME Record below.

Troubleshooting Problems With Your CNAME Record

Step 1

If you’ve followed the steps above and are still experiencing difficulties 48 hours after making changes to your CNAME records, you can quickly verify your CNAME record by running a CNAME lookup using MxToolbox:

  1. Visit http://www.mxtoolbox.com/CNAMELookup.aspx.
  2. Enter your custom domain’s URL in the “Domain Name” field.
  3. Click CNAME Lookup.

Step 2

Please check if there are any CNAMEURL Redirect (Unmasked/Masked/Permanent) or A or records set for the same Host. Such records can conflict with each other, thus, they are to be removed.

Step 3

If you’ve followed these instructions and are still experiencing difficulties with your custom domain that have not resolved themselves after 48 hours, please start a new topic in our Support Forum and attach a full screen capture of your current DNS setup and let us know which hosting provider you are using.
